Hello from Coach Bob ...I didn't grow up playing soccer. I fell into it the way so many dads do: I got the call that said "If you don't coach, we may not have a team."
"They're five," I thought, "How hard can it be?" That was sneaking up on twenty years ago and, almost from the first day, I developed a genuine passion for The Beautiful Game. I've coached all three of my kids at various levels from that first U5 girls' team to U19 boys. And, tangentially, I've coached a couple hundred other kids along the way. I've achieved an AYSO National Coach certificate and CalSouth National D license and, now, I'm a US Soccer National "C" License candidate. I ref and have served for many years on the AYSO Region 68, Camarillo, California, board of directors. There is no bad day on the pitch! Currently I'm coaching a U10 boys Camarillo AYSO Extra team and assisting on my younger son's U13 Oxnard PAL (Police Activities League) team that's moving to the Coast League Premier bracket next fall. Over the years, I've developed a coaching philosophy that's mostly about the game being the best teacher and, the more we can keep them actually playing the game, the better they will learn. Not coincidentally, that is also the AYSO philosophy and it has largely become the US Soccer philosophy, at least at the younger ages. It is my quest to develop training sessions that reflect and are informed by that philosophy and I have accumulated and catalogued a number training games and exercises and I'm in the process of distilling all that cool stuff into Coach Bob's Session Builder to help coaches more easily assemble fun, dynamic and challenging training sessions. I hope other coaches, maybe you, will be able to use Coach Bob's Session Builder. For the Beautiful Game, --bd-- |

A proud day for coaches Bob Dawson and Ted Nagel, the 9 & 10-year olds performed far above their theoretical ability, utilizing pass-back techniques, possession passing, rotating the ball to switch the attack, give-and-go passing, diagonal runs off the ball and copious communication.
FC Camarillo Osos will continue to challenge themselves with a competitive tournament season planned for the coming weeks and months.

Philosophy:
Keep it fun and everything else will follow. We all learn better when we’re having fun and it’s no different for the kids. If they’re having fun, they are learning more.
And if they are learning more, they are getting better. The better they get, the more fun they have … repeat cycle.
Winning games is fun, but the true measure of coaching success is player development.
I live to see the lights go on!
